Christian Raffin

Mixed techniques

Christian Raffin is a contemporary French painter born in 1957 in Isère, in the French Alps. His passion for art began in his early teens when a schoolteacher inspired his interest in drawing. Although he initially set aside his artistic ambitions to pursue engineering studies, creativity remained an important part of his life. After graduating, Raffin lived in Tunisia from 1982 to 1984, where he explored photography and began experimenting with painting. Immersed in the country's vibrant colors and atmosphere, he developed a visual language that would later influence his work. In 2004, he left his engineering career to devote himself entirely to painting. Raffin draws inspiration from a wide range of artists, including Vincent van Gogh, Salvador Dalí, and Nicolas de Staël. Working with both oil and acrylic paints, he uses brushes and palette knives on various surfaces such as canvas, paper, and wood. His paintings often reflect personal memories, everyday experiences, and impressions gathered during his travels, blending structure and spontaneity in a highly expressive style. For Raffin, painting is a means of self-expression and emotional exploration. His work frequently contrasts bright, vibrant colors with themes of nostalgia or melancholy. Through the use of soft focus and blurred silhouettes, he creates an atmosphere of mystery and imagination, giving his figures the appearance of elegant, dreamlike ghosts.
